Yesterday Joe and I did a great interview with Apple Daily – yes, THAT Apple Daily, the one notorious for causing tons of problems in Hong Kong with their brash and often outright inaccurate reporting. Were we worried about what kind of interview was going to happen? Of course we were! It’s Apple Daily man! But once we met the reporter, I know that I was totally relieved. He is someone that is incredibly passionate about our band and wanted to know the background to this band and what we’re about. To me, I took it as a wonderful way to introduce hardcore to more people in Hong Kong. I do think that people who are interested in hardcore are probably NOT readers of Apple Daily – but still, it’s nice to even give the most typical local HK person a chance to read about a whole DIFFERENT type of mentality that does exist in Hong Kong. We are not guys that need nice cars, or tons of money, or live in big mansions, we don’t care about any of that shit – we’re very simple people that just need to be able to pay our bills and be able to continue doing what we love.

Thank you to Ah Bun for that wonderful conversation…I thought it would’ve been over in 30 minutes…but we ended up talking for almost 2 and a half hours.

Can’t wait to see how the interview came out…

    Peace,
    Riz

PS: Gotta say – I love Joe. It’s so funny how similar (and different) the both of us are…last week in an interview he said “even though I only joined the band 2 years ago, I feel like I’ve been in this band for a LONG time!” HAHAHAHAHAHA…that’s so true. Good dude – an honor to be in a band with such a stand-up guy.

  • lawmakers pay-rise issue

Posted by Riz Hardcore on February 8, 2012

    Ok…

Thoughts about this bullshit pay-rise from the lawmakers in Hong Kong – keeping in mind that some people work hard representing the views of their voters, and some do not – there is a SIMPLE solution that most businesses use anyway: PERFORMANCE-BASED PAY! There should be an assessment done over a period of time based on

    1. attendance 出席

    2. how pro-active the lawmaker is 你怎麼主動

    3. how many bills they table

    4. how involved they are in discussions

All of this is WHY they were voted into the legislature in the first place! So I think this discussion about how ALL lawmakers should be given the same pay is STUPID and RIDICULOUS. If I was a lawmaker that is incredibly active but someone like Timothy Fok Tsun-ting who doesn’t show up at meetings or comes late, and gets paid the same amount as me – I’d be PISSED. No way.

But our government doesn’t know how to make any decisions and is not bold enough to lead the pack so I don’t think anything logical is going to happen.

Yesterday an interview I did yesterday for an online webzine came out so here it is! Head over to our PRESS section to enjoy reading it…it’s the first one called “AWEH” – good interview I think plus the layout comes with free music and our Time Will Prove MV which is an awesome way to package everything together.

In our PRESS section I’ve also put up the Time Out interview that came out a few weeks ago…enjoy that as well!

Photos from our album release show are up too – our friend from Guangzhou named Ted Liu took them and they look SO FUCKING GOOD!!! They’re all up on our facebook page unfortunately so people in China use your awesome PROXY shit to check it out :-)

One of the worst bands on the planet – EMMURE – has released a new music video. And the first words of the song is “i want to watch you suck his dick…I know you love it bitch”. WHAT THE FUCK? Stupid horrible band – with stupid horrible lyrics. I can’t believe there’s a band on the planet that has taken “breakdowns” and made them a WHOLE SONG. 特傻逼的 – 首歌的一句是”i want to watch you suck his dick…I know you love it bitch”.

    Alright…

    Yo…

6am Monday morning – much like most of you, it’s back to the daily grind. Luckily it is a job that I do enjoy…working with children is a great thing and so I don’t mind dragging myself out of bed and getting to work with 20 amazing kids as they continue to grow in so many amazing ways.

This weekend was pretty cool – Friday was sick as a dog, was able to get on stage SOMEHOW and rocked through about 6 songs with KLC. That was an outSTANDING show!!! Anti-flag were great and humble…

Then the next day I stayed home and tried to recover as much as possible…I tried not to get too close to Sofia, but that’s impossible. She’s so darn cute right now it’s crazy…Joe and I moved the last 2 cabinets back to Evocation’s room so that was good. After that we had time to so we went to support a local band called The Hungry Ghosts who had an EP release show that night. I went there especially to watch the HK band called Modern Children – they ARE SO GOOD!!! If you haven’t checked them out then do it NOW – not hardcore or metal – they’re just good music. Watching them as a huge “feel good” factor because the musicians are always laughing and smiling as they perform. I loved that the musicians kept switching instrument after each song! Hahahaha…hilarious…their bells sound awesome, their moody emo moment sound incredible…and then they have this “get up and dance” song which was beautiful! Good band:

Alright – time to get to work…Joe will be figuring out distribution of our new record so that they’ll be in stores by the end of this week.

Posted by Riz Hardcore on February 4, 2012

Oh my god…Anti-Flag was un-fucking-believable. I don’t even know what to say…I don’t think I had any real thoughts prior to getting to the show. The show was on Friday night, but on Thursday night I suddenly got the flu and a horrible sore throat. I went to work in the morning but left early because I was so sick. I was dizzy driving back home and stopped at the doctor’s first. She looked at my throat and looked at my records and said “You ALWAYS get sore throats. You sure you don’t smoke?” hahahaha – I was like no I do not smoke and have never smoked. She gave me some medicine and I was home by 11:30am and slept until 8pm!!! The show started at 8pm by the way…

I finally dragged myself off the couch but I decided that if I was going to play this show then I’m going to use this opportunity to sweat everything out – so I wore:

    1. t-shirt
    2. long sleeve shirt
    3. flannel long sleeve
    4. hooded sweater

I wore ALL these things on stage!!! HAHAHAHAHHAHA…but it was awesome – as soon as we got on stage I just felt great. The reason I felt great though was because of the audience – everyone in the audience was just completely ready to go fucking NUTS. It was amazing…there were only 270 people at the show, but THIS show was more fun to play then our album release show which had over 400 people. So again, the point we’ve mentioned many times before, it doesn’t matter HOW many people are at the show, it matters what kind of people are at the show. Last night’s show was full of people who were there to have a good time and go crazy…right away I forgot I was even sick and screamed my ass off. And also – we DID NOT PLAY REFUSE!!! YESSSSSS!!! THANK FUCKING GOD!!!!!

While we were playing all the Anti-Flag guys came by the stage and watched us play…we have played with some HUGE punk rock bands (Bouncing Souls and NOFX) and none of these band members have stood and watched us play. Not only that, but when we got off stage Anti-Flag came by and introduced themselves to us. I couldn’t believe it – such a HUGE punk rock band and they were coming by to introduce themselves to us…unbelievable. I have always loved Anti-Flag but after this, I am a supporter for LIFE. What a great band…great bunch of guys…and they’re humble as fuck – that’s all that matters!

Great band…all I want to do today is listen to their records all day long! Their new album’s coming out in March and you fucking BET that I’ll be ordering this thing online!

    Hey,

Sorry for the lack of posts lately – last week we were obviously busy getting the album release show ready to rock for you guys. 。。

So the show went on and we had over 400 people come! That was great…we don’t believe that a lot of people in Hong Kong like us very much so we didn’t expect many people to come. I thought only 200 people were going to show up, but was surprised that over 400 people were there. We of course want to thank Rock Motel first and foremost – especially Tim – because this show wouldn’t have been successful without their support and passion for King Ly Chee. I remember reading a message that Tim had left in 2011 after the Tie Shu Lan show where he said “usually, I’m not that into King Ly Chee, but at the Tie Shu Lan show they were awesome!” – but while working with us this time, I feel he gained a whole new level of respect for us that was AMAZING to see. He just fell in love with King Ly Chee and with HARDCORE and even said “through working with you guys, I learned so much! Like PMA!” :-) During the show I saw Tim in the pit moshing like crazy with his glasses on! Hahahahaha…

Because of Tim’s help we actually launched our first real music video! What a dream come true…the story for this music video was something that I had in my head for many MANY years. I always wanted to attach a much more ASIAN IMAGE to hardcore (because let’s face it, everything about hardcore seems to be USA-centered…which is unfair because hardcore is WORLDWIDE) – so to be able to show the story about how one Chinese school kid finds this underground world of hardcore and how he falls in love with it and walks out of the record store with a Minor Threat album in his hands – was something that I and the rest of the KLC guys are SO proud of. Please help us take this video and share it EVERYWHERE!

The Chinese version will be launched later tonight – we promise to all our Mainland supporters!

I was very proud to see members of NT and Screw in the audience! That was so great to see members of the 90′s era of heavy bands come out to support us – I could see in their faces how proud they were of us that after 13 years, we’re still here playing heavy music and never changed our sound to become more commercial. We don’t do any “clean” singing – we scream our asses off, we don’t wear any crazy outfits on stage, we don’t have any silly photos or album covers. We just play heavy music and scream our hearts out. I’m happy that people who truly love heavy music in Hong Kong respect us for that…we never gave up and we will never give up.

Of course, we have to thank all the bands that lent us equipment, promoted the show on their pages, and came to the show to support us. It was great to see members of Evocation, Protoss, Daybreak on Monday, Shepherds the Weak, Mensheng, Qiu Hong all in the audience singing, screaming and jumping along…I don’t think many people in HK find much in common with our music or lyrics, but it’s nice to know there are SOME that do. I’m sure there were members of other bands there as well so thanks for coming if you were there! Evocation, Protoss, Daybreak on Monday, Shepherds the Weak, Mensheng, Qiu Hong…

My real wish though – was if other people who we had influenced these past 13 years would’ve also come to the show. I wished that members of other heavy bands that are still around would’ve come too. But anyway…to each their own.

Thank you for coming – and I especially want to thank those people who came to the front of the show and went crazy with us. We were on stage jumping around and screaming our asses off for 23 songs – it feels so weird to look at out an audience that is standing there with their arms folded. We’re a hardcore band – not a rock n’ roll band – for hardcore, the crowd interaction and energy is what fuels our performance…without it, it makes everything feel awkward, which unfortunately it did feel like.

Anyway…we sold SO MUCH merch at this show! Thank you for putting some of your hard-earned money to support us! We sold only around 100 CD’s which is weird – but that’s the sign of the times…bands all over the world talk about how they always sell more shirts, hoodies, jackets, etc., then CD’s…and that happened last weekend.

The King Ly Chee machine is continuing to roll…in April we’ll be doing a China tour to promote the album, we’re planning on going back to the Philippines for a couple shows, and May 12 we are confirmed to play a music festival in Malaysia with our good friends in Love Me Butch! So we are taking King Ly Chee and sharing it with the world – letting them know what hardcore from Hong Kong/China sounds like!

We’re playing this Friday at the new Hidden Agenda opening for Anti-Flag so SEE YOU THERE! We will be selling merch and CD’s at that show so bring money!
